Buy a Purse, a Bag, and a Sword

August 18, 2019  //  This is part of a teaching series on the book of Luke that explores his detailed accounts of the life of Jesus.  Why would the Prince of peace order His disciples to die the most deadly weapon of their time: the short double-sided Roman sword?  In the garden when a disciple cut off an ear, Jesus said they didn’t need weapons.  However after His ascension, there may be times when we will need to defend ourselves.  We are never to kill trying to defend Jesus and Christianity – God can do that on His own.  This Scripture alludes to circumstances when we need to kill to defeat evil when there is no other choice.  It is easy to select one part of the Gospel message that suits us – peace or war.  The whole Gospel calls for great discernment and prayer for the leading of the Holy Spirit.
