Rebuilding Walls and Re-establishing the Word

Watch the full teaching here March 5, 2017 // At this point of The Story, we have seen the complete destruction of the nation, and now the people have returned to occupy the land, rebuild the city and temple, and again return to worship God. God brought them back and put a “bug in their ear” (His Word). Getting a “bug in your ear” is annoying, it scratches, and gets your attention. People can learn to "put a bug in an ear" to someone in 3 minutes or less: 1. God, the community of the Trinity, wants to be in community with human beings. 2. Sin entered in the human spirit and destroyed the unity people have with God and with one another. 3. God wins us back to Himself, beginning with Ab

What Were the Odds?

Watch the full teaching here February 26, 2017 // Just because God’s name isn’t mentioned in the book of Esther doesn’t mean He isn’t working behind the scenes to care for His people and to carry out His plan. Even though 50,000 Israelites had returned to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple, the majority of them still lived in exile in Persia. Haman rolled the dice, but God determined how the dice would fall. Proverbs 16:33 tells us that God controls the roll of the dice. Colossians 2:16-17 tell us Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all Old Testament feasts, including Purim. We need not be afraid of anything. Name your fears… illness, aging, not enough money, loss of job, loss of home, family

Don't Make God's Big Things Small

Watch the full teaching here February 19, 2017 // Do you need to repent and return to your first love, your first passion: God? Is God speaking to you through a season of testing? Are you listening? Are you being distracted from God’s purpose for your life? How? Commit to come back and make God’s big things your big things. There ARE seasons of God-ordained struggle, times of exhausted emptiness when nothing seems to work. These seasons are God’s way of getting us to examine our ways. This has direct application to our nation. We have never been more sophisticated, more educated, more advanced as a country, yet we have never been more broken. We don’t help our nation by pointing the finger

Daniel in Exile

Watch the full teaching here February 12, 2017 // The story of Daniel and his friends is more like ours than some of the other stories in the Bible. 1 Peter 1:1, where our story begins to unfold, identifies Christians as strangers in the world. Daniel’s hometown was Jerusalem, and our hometown is the New Jerusalem, which Jesus is constructing for followers of Christ (John 14). Peter says we are “aliens and strangers in the world,” and Jesus tells us to be in the world, not of the world. 1 Peter 2:11 gives us more instructions about how to do that: 1) be careful not to get sucked into the lifestyle of the world, and 2) live a life that points others to God.
